About GetRandomName
GetRandomName is a small collection of free name tools, dice and spin wheels. There are no accounts to create, and results appear straight away.
Who runs GetRandomName
GetRandomName is built and run by Basit Murad. It is an independent website, and you can reach Basit Murad at [email protected].
What you can do here
Writers can find character names, parents can browse baby names, and developers can create fake test data. Teachers and game groups can use the wheels, dice and coin to make a quick, fair choice.
Where our names come from
- First names: US Social Security Administration baby name records, combined from 2016 to 2025.
- Surnames: the US Census Bureau's 2010 surname list.
- Muslim, religious and other cultural names: lists we selected by hand, with short traditional meanings.
- Fantasy names and usernames: our own syllable rules and word lists.
How accurate the meanings are
Our meanings are short summaries to help you explore, not scholarly definitions. A name's meaning, spelling and use can differ by language, family and region, so please check with a trusted source before choosing a name for a child or a religious occasion.
How the tools work
Names, dice rolls, coin flips and wheel spins are generated in your browser using its built-in cryptographic random number generator. The lists you paste into the picker and the names you save stay on your device. We use Google Analytics to see how the site is used, as our privacy policy explains.
Corrections and questions
