Create fake names on their own, or complete US identities for testing software. Choose any mix of street address, phone number, email and birthday, in realistic formats that are designed not to reach a real person.
How to use the fake name generator
- Tick the details you want, or choose Name only if you just need names.
- Pick a culture or religion, a gender and how many results you need. You can also choose the first letter of the first or last name.
- Press Generate. Each result appears as a card marked as fake test data.
- Copy one card, or copy the whole batch as text or JSON. Exports include only the details you ticked.
- Use Download CSV to import the batch into a spreadsheet, database or test tool.
Who uses the Fake Name Generator
Software and QA testing
Signup forms, checkout screens and account pages need input that looks real. Using invented records means you can test validation, formatting and page layouts without exposing the details of an actual customer.
Seeding development databases
A demo environment looks far more convincing with varied records than with "test1" and "test2". The CSV and JSON exports are ready to load into a script, and the columns stay the same from batch to batch.
Product demos and screenshots
Sales demos and documentation often show customer lists. Invented identities let you present a realistic screen without blurring anything or risking a privacy mistake.
Training and teaching
Students learning databases, spreadsheets or data entry need sample records to practise on. Generated data gives every learner something realistic to work with and nothing sensitive to protect.
How the fake details are made
Test data should look real to your software without pointing at a real person. Each field here is built with that goal in mind:
- Names come from public lists of common American names, or from our hand-selected lists if you choose another culture or religion. They are paired at random. Addresses and phone numbers stay in the US format.
- Addresses combine a random house number and common street name with an invented town, a real state code and a five-digit ZIP.
- Phone numbers use the 555-0100 to 555-0199 range, reserved for fictional use.
- Emails use example.com, a domain reserved for documentation and examples.
- Birthdays are in YYYY-MM-DD format, for adults aged 18 to 81.
A tip for better tests
Generated records are tidy by design, but real user input is not. Alongside them, test your forms with very long names, accented letters, hyphens and apostrophes, and with fields left blank, since those cases are where validation most often breaks.
It also helps to keep generated records out of production systems. Give test accounts a clear label or keep them in a separate database, so that nobody mistakes them for real customers later.
Fake Name Generator questions
Will the phone numbers and emails reach anyone?
They should not. Phone numbers use the 555-01XX range that is reserved for fictional use in North America. Emails use example.com, a domain reserved for documentation, so messages sent there are not delivered to a real mailbox.
Could an address be real?
Town names are invented, and each ZIP code is only loosely based on its state, so addresses are not meant to be deliverable. A combination could still resemble a real place by chance, so never post anything to these addresses.
Does it create Social Security or credit card numbers?
No, and it never will. Those are not needed for most testing. For payments, use the test card numbers your payment provider publishes, which are built to work safely in its test mode.
Can I use a fake identity to sign up for services?
This tool is for testing and demos. Do not use the results to deceive anyone, get around a site's rules, or fill in government, financial, medical or employment forms. Doing so can break the law even when the details are invented.
Is any of this data about a real person?
No. Each field is generated separately at random. Names come from public government lists of common names, or from our hand-selected lists for other cultures and religions, and the pairing with an address, phone number and birthday is entirely made up.
